NO NAME - CATALOGUE
This is a work that questions the notion of dehumanised emptiness, that which denies presence.
Space is not always a territory, but almost always a place, and this often contains or expels the individual. A space deprived of the symbolic expressions of identity, relationships and history. It deals with the themes of migration, mobility, and power relations and vulnerability in terms of the movement of individuals across the planet.
Twelve passport photographs are observed on the wall, enlarged to a scale of 1:10, and intervened with liquid paper (spellchecker) with the intention of erasing the image, the face that identifies the individual. The action of erasing is the metaphor of an emptying action, which turns an individual into nobody or nothing, stripping him of his identity and memory. This action vanishes before its own impossibility, because the liquid paper becomes detached from the photographic paper, revealing the image that subsists below. This work speaks of inhabiting nothingness from one’s own identity, of feeling stripped of the adversity and impossibilities one faces when living in a foreign territory.
Catalogo sin nombre
El espacio no siempre es un territorio, pero casi siempre un lugar, y éste, muchas veces contiene o expulsa al individuo. Sin Nombre es una obra que cuestiona la noción del vacío deshumanizado, el que niega la presencia. Un espacio despojado de las expresiones simbólicas de la identidad, las relaciones y la historia. Se abordan los temas de la migración, la movilidad in/deseada, y las relaciones de poder y la vulnerabilidad en lo que respecta a los desplazamientos de los individuos a través del planeta. Se observan 12 fotografías carnet, ampliadas a escala 1:10, e intervenidas con liquid paper (corrector ortográfico) con la intención borrar la imagen, el rostro que identifica al individuo. La acción de borrar es la metáfora de una acción vaciadora, que convierte a un individuo en nadie o nada, despojándole de su identidad y memoria. Esta acción se desvanece ante su propia imposibilidad, porque el liquid paper va desprendiéndose del papel fotográfico, revelando la imagen que anteriormente fue borrada. Esta obra habla del habitar la nada desde la propia identidad, del sentirse despojado ante la adversidad e imposibilidades que enfrenta al vivir en un territorio ajeno.
