THE SAFE CIRCLE

"The safe circle" is collaborative performance to the project Mis(s)placed Women? by Tanja Ostojić which problematises displacement and migration from a feminist perspective. This action seeks to question the power relations between the body and space, particularly the vulnerability of women's bodies and dissidence. Space is not always a territory, but almost always a place, and it often expels or invisibilises its individuals, generating a metaphorical void that denies presence. Places full but stripped of identity, where people inhabit adversity, where we pass through but never leave a trace, where these relations of power and vulnerability become increasingly visible and enduring.
The work presented for the 60th National Visual Arts Award consists of 2 instances. First, a archive of the performance made in Berlin in 2019, and second, the iteration of the performance in the exhibition hall. The 1st part consists of an archaeology of the performance in Berlin 2019 on a wall. This installation contains the photographic and filmic record, maps, catalogue, postcards, mails, poster of the performance and other elements related to the action.
The 2nd part is the iteration of the performance "The Safe Circle" in front of this wall.
The performance in Uruguay implies an appropriation and a reinterpretation. The elements that will come out of the bag will be different. A plant, a rock, aromatic herbs, food, amulets, old books and new books, photos, etc. In this instance, the perfo expands and interpellates the displaced human in an attempt to de-centralise and interpellate this human being, the axis of the hegemonic western culture defined by the Judeo-Christian hetero cisgender man as the only being capable of defining and deciding about the world and all that it contains.

“El círculo seguro” es una performance que se enmarca dentro del proyecto colaborativo Mis(s)placed Women? De Tanja Ostojić donde se problematiza el desplazamiento y la migración desde una perspectiva feminista. Esta acción trata de cuestionar las relaciones de poder entre el cuerpo y el espacio, particularmente la vulnerabilidad que atraviesan a los cuerpos de mujeres y disidencias. El espacio no siempre es un territorio, pero casi siempre un lugar, y éste muchas de las veces expulsa o invisiviliza al sus individuos, generando un vacío metafórico, que niega la presencia. Lugares repletos pero despojados de identidad, donde las personas habitan la adversidad, por donde transitamos pero nunca dejamos huella, donde éstas relaciones de poder y la vulnerabilidad se hacen cada vez más visibles y perdurables.
La obra que se presenta para el 60 Premio Nacional de Artes Visuales consta de 2 instancias. Primero un registro de la performace realizada en Berlín en el 2019 y segundo la iteración de la misma en la sala de exhibición. La 1ra parte consta de una arqueología de la performance en Berlín 2019 dispuesta sobre una pared de la sala. Esta instalación contiene el registro fotográfico y fílmico, mapas, catálogo, postales, mails, cartel de la performance y otros elementos referentes a dicha acción.
La 2da parte consta de la iteración de la performance "El Circulo Seguro" frente a esta pared.
La iteración de la performance implica una apropiación y una reinterpretación. Los elementos que saldrán de la valija serán diferentes. Habrá una planta, una roca, yuyos arómaticos, comida, amuletos, libros antiguos y libros nuevos, fotos, etc. En esta instancia, la perfo se expande e interpela al humano despalzado en un intento de desantropecentralizar e interpelar a este ser, eje de la cultura occidental hegemónica definida por el hombre hetero cis judeo-cristiano como el único ser capaz de definir y decidir sobre mundo y todo lo que este contiene.
